Ingredients

  • 8 cups water
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • salt, pinch

Instructions

  • Heat the Water & Milk: In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it begins to steam. Stir occasionally to prevent it from scorching. You don’t want it to come to a full boil, just warm enough to dissolve the cocoa and melt the chocolate.
  • Mix the Cocoa and Sugar: In a separate small bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, sugar, and salt. Adding a pinch of salt helps balance out the sweetness and enhances the chocolate flavor.
  • Combine the Ingredients: Once the milk is warm, whisk in the cocoa-sugar mixture until fully dissolved. If you’re using chocolate chips, add them now and stir until they melt into the milk, making the drink even creamier.
  • Add Vanilla: Stir in the vanilla extract, which will add a subtle depth of flavor that complements the chocolate.
  • Serve: Pour the hot chocolate into your favorite mug and top with whipped cream, marshmallows, or even a drizzle of chocolate syrup.
  • Enjoy: Sip slowly, savoring the rich, velvety smoothness of your homemade hot chocolate. It’s the perfect way to relax and warm up on a chilly day.
