Boosting Your Immune System Naturally: Rooted in Biblical Wisdom

In a world where health challenges abound, many of us are seeking ways to strengthen our bodies and protect ourselves from illness. One of the best ways to do so is by nourishing our immune system with natural and holistic methods, many of which have been used for centuries. The Bible reminds us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19), and it is our responsibility to honor God by caring for them. By turning to nature and God’s creation, we can support our immune system and live in harmony with the body God gave us.

Food as Medicine: Eating for Immunity

In a world filled with processed and convenience foods, it’s important to remember what REAL food is. God has given us a bounty of nutritious foods to nourish our bodies and promote health. Food is not just fuel; it is medicine for our bodies. Throughout the Bible, we see references to the importance of eating wholesome, natural foods.

  • Genesis 1:29 reveals God’s initial plan for our diet: “Then God said, ‘I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.’” Next time you’re at the grocery store, notice how many fruits and vegetables are now “seed-less”. There is a reason the food industry has created these lines of produce, removing the seeds. Many seeds are anti-parasitic and vital to gut health.

Incorporating nutrient-dense foods can naturally boost your immune system. Foods rich in vitamins and minerals such as vitamin C (found in citrus fruits, bell peppers, and leafy greens) and zinc (found in nuts, seeds, and legumes) are essential for immune health. Garlic and onions, with their antibacterial properties, have been used for centuries to fight infections. The Bible often highlights the use of herbs and plants for healing, and many of them still offer great benefits today.

Bone Broth: A Healing, Nourishing Elixir

One of the most ancient and powerful natural remedies for supporting our immune system is bone broth. Bone broth has been used for centuries, both for its rich, comforting flavor and its numerous health benefits. The Bible emphasizes the importance of nourishing our bodies with wholesome foods, and bone broth is an excellent example of God’s provision for our physical well-being.

Bone broth is packed with nutrients that promote healing, repair, and overall vitality. It is made by simmering animal bones (usually beef, chicken, or turkey) with water, herbs, and vegetables for an extended period of time, allowing the nutrients to be extracted.

Health Benefits of Bone Broth:

  • Rich in Collagen: Bone broth is packed with collagen, a protein that is essential for healthy skin, joints, and connective tissues. As we age, collagen production naturally decreases, but consuming bone broth can help replenish this vital protein, supporting skin elasticity and joint health.

  • Supports Gut Health: The gelatin in bone broth helps to repair and heal the gut lining, supporting digestive health and reducing inflammation in the intestines. This is especially beneficial for those with gut issues like leaky gut syndrome or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

  • Boosts Immune Function: Bone broth contains amino acids like arginine, glutamine, and cysteine, which support the body’s immune response and reduce inflammation. These amino acids are known to enhance the body’s ability to fight infections and recover from illness.

  • Rich in Minerals: Bone broth is an excellent source of essential minerals like calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus, which are vital for bone health, muscle function, and overall vitality.

How to Incorporate Bone Broth into Your Diet

Making your own bone broth is simple. Start by simmering bones (from pasture-raised animals if possible) with water, a couple of tablespoons of apple cider vinegar (to help release minerals from the bones), vegetables like carrots, onions, and celery, and herbs like thyme and rosemary. Simmer for 12–24 hours, and strain the broth to enjoy as a savory, nutrient-dense drink. You can also use it as a base for soups, stews, or sauces, providing both flavor and nourishment.

Homemade Electrolytes: Hydration and Vitality

Electrolytes are essential for maintaining proper hydration, especially during times of illness or physical exertion. While sports drinks may offer electrolytes, many contain excess sugar and artificial ingredients. A homemade electrolyte drink made with simple, natural ingredients can hydrate and replenish your body without the added chemicals.

To make your own electrolyte drink, mix:

  • 1 cup of water: Essential for hydration.
  • 1 tablespoon of honey: A natural source of energy and antimicrobial properties.
  • 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt: A rich source of minerals like sodium and chloride that are essential for fluid balance. Be sure to use REAL salt. It has so many more vitamins and minerals than table salt.
  • 1/2 cup of fresh citrus juice (like lemon or lime): High in vitamin C, which supports the immune system.

This homemade electrolyte drink can help replenish vital minerals, keep you hydrated, and support your immune health.

Herbs and Teas for Immune Support

Throughout the Bible, we find references to healing herbs and plants. In Exodus 30:23, God instructs Moses to use a blend of aromatic spices and oils for the anointing oil, some of which have antimicrobial properties. These plants were not only spiritually significant but also healthful.

Here are a few herbs and tea blends that can enhance your immune system:

  • Echinacea: Known for its immune-boosting properties, Echinacea can help the body fight off infections by increasing the production of white blood cells. It’s often used in teas and supplements and aligns with biblical teachings on the importance of herbs for healing.

  • Ginger: Ginger has been used for centuries to fight infections and reduce inflammation. It can be brewed into a tea or added to food.

  • Chamomile: Chamomile tea is soothing, calming, and also supports immune health.

Consider creating your own immune-boosting tea blends by combining elderberry, ginger, echinacea, and chamomile for a powerful, natural remedy to drink throughout the colder months.

Colloidal Silver: A Natural Antibacterial

Colloidal silver has been used for centuries for its antibacterial and antiviral properties. It’s a natural supplement that has been linked to immune support, and many people use it to fight infections. The Bible speaks of the cleansing power of God, and colloidal silver, being a powerful antimicrobial agent, can be seen as an example of God’s provision of natural ways to protect and heal our bodies.

We use colloidal silver for a variety of purposes! It’s great for treating burns, cuts, and eye or ear infections. We’ve even used it in a nebulizer machine for respiratory issues. It’s also effective for our animals, helping with injuries and illnesses.

While colloidal silver has been praised by some for its immune-boosting properties, it is essential to use it responsibly and consult with a healthcare professional before incorporating it into your routine.

Essential Oils: Healing Through Fragrance

The Bible often references the healing power of oils and anointing with fragrant substances. Exodus 30:23-25 details the anointing oil used for sacred purposes, which included myrrh and cinnamon—both of which have antimicrobial properties. These oils were believed to bring healing and protection, and today, essential oils continue to be used in holistic health practices.

Here are a few essential oils that support immune health:

  1. Tea Tree Oil: Known for its antibacterial and antiviral properties, tea tree oil can be diffused or applied topically to help boost the immune system and fight off germs.

  2. Eucalyptus Oil: Eucalyptus is known to support respiratory health. Its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties make it great for boosting immunity, especially when dealing with seasonal colds.

  3. Oregano Oil: Oregano oil is often considered a potent natural antibiotic. It’s excellent for fighting off bacteria and supporting immune function.
    – There is also a dietary form of oregano oil, which works amazingly! It’s a very strong natural antibiotic. It is considered a hot oil so be careful when using it. (Pregnant women shouldn’t ingest oregano oil, it’s an abortion agentic) It can be used with animals.

To use essential oils, consider diffusing them in your home, applying them topically (with a carrier oil), or adding a few drops to your bath for an aromatic, relaxing experience.

Detox Baths: Cleansing the Body

God created water to refresh and cleanse us, both physically and spiritually. In John 4:14, Jesus speaks of living water, saying, “But whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst.” Just as water cleanses us spiritually, it can also be a tool for detoxification and healing. Detox baths, made with ingredients like Epsom salt, baking soda, activated charcoal and essential oils, can help draw out toxins from the body, reduce inflammation, and promote relaxation.

  • Epsom Salt: Rich in magnesium, Epsom salt helps soothe sore muscles, reduce stress, and support detoxification through the skin. It’s often used in baths to promote relaxation and healing.

  • Baking Soda: Known for its alkalizing properties, baking soda can help balance the body’s pH and soothe skin irritations. (Aluminum free is best!)

  • Activated Charcoal: Activated charcoal  works by trapping toxins, chemicals, and impurities in the body, helping to flush them out. This powerful substance is made by heating carbon-rich materials, like wood or coconut shells, to very high temperatures, creating a highly porous structure that can absorb harmful substances. (It’s GREAT for upset belly and diarrhea issues.)

  • Essential Oils: Oils like lavender, eucalyptus, and peppermint can add therapeutic benefits to your bath, helping to open airways, reduce stress, and calm the mind.

Recipe:
Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Epsom salt (helps with muscle relaxation and detoxification)
  • 1/2 cup baking soda (balances the skin’s pH and helps soothe irritation)
  • 1/4 cup activated charcoal (draws out toxins and impurities from the skin) It will turn your tub black. Magic Eraser is your friend!
  • Optional: Essential oils (lavender, eucalyptus, or peppermint for added relaxation and healing)

Instructions:

  1. Fill your tub with warm water, ensuring it’s comfortable but not too hot.

  2. Mix the dry ingredients (Epsom salt, baking soda, and activated charcoal) together in a bowl. Be sure to stir well to evenly combine.

  3. Add the mixture to your bath water, stirring to dissolve the ingredients completely.
  4. Optional: Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the bath for extra healing properties and a calming scent.

  5. Soak for 20–30 minutes, allowing your body to relax and the ingredients to work their detoxifying magic.

  6. Rinse off after your bath with warm water, and be sure to hydrate well afterward to support the detox process.

Taking time to relax in a detox bath not only supports your body physically but also provides spiritual renewal, offering time to reflect, pray, and rest in God’s peace.

Faith and Wellness: The Power of Prayer and Rest

As we look at all of these natural remedies, it is important to remember that our faith is also a powerful tool in our health. James 5:15 tells us, “And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up.” Prayer, faith, and trusting in God’s provision are vital components in maintaining good health. Rest and stress reduction are also crucial to immune health, as God designed us to rest and rejuvenate.

Taking time to rest, pray, and trust in God’s guidance can be just as important as any natural remedy. God has provided us with a wealth of knowledge and resources to care for our bodies. Let us embrace His creation and trust in His provision.

Incorporating natural remedies like elderberry, herbs, essential oils, and colloidal silver into your lifestyle can boost your immune system and support overall health. But remember, it’s not just about the physical practices—it’s about living in harmony with God’s design. Eating nourishing foods, taking time for rest, praying, and relying on His strength and provision all play a role in our well-being.

By holistically caring for our bodies and minds, we honor God, who gave us the gift of life and health. Let us use the tools He has provided—food, herbs, and faith—to maintain strong and vibrant immune systems and live fully in the way He intended.

“Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.” – 3 John 1:2
