Creating a Prayer Space | War Room

Prayer is referenced so many times in scripture. The word “prayer” alone is referenced at least 127 times. The word “pray” is mentioned at least 2,164 times.  It’s important!

Yeshua/Jesus shows us how to pray in Luke 11. He warns us in Matthew 6 to be mindful how we pray.
“But you, when you pray, go into your room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. Your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” – Matthew 6:6

Years ago, I watched the movie “War Room”. It really had me thinking about creating my own space. Then I read the verse in Matthew 6:6, basically describing a quiet and intimate place to be alone with God.

I was in a season where I felt alone and honestly unwanted. Being a stay-at-home mom had become my identity and I had lost who I was. Every day was a routine, and it was lonely.

I created this little 1×2 section of wall space behind our bedroom door. It quickly filled with bible verses, prayer and photos. I over ran the space, so I moved over to an open wall in our bedroom. I would sit there often in prayer, alone. Going to battle spiritually for others and myself.

I can share so many beautiful, yet powerful testimonies that have come from this quiet place. So many answered prayers and connection has been done here.

The bible shares WHO we battle against in Ephesians 6. It shares and paints a picture of battle armor. That when we seek God, pray and fast we are picking up that armor daily.  It begins to explain a topic that gives some people fear or something that some like to try to ignore… spiritual warfare.

Not everything is spiritual warfare but there are a lot of things that are. God has given us free will to choose our own path and choices. Those choices can be influenced and can/have consequences both physically and spiritually.

“Finally, grow powerful in union with the Lord, in union with his mighty strength! Use all the armor and weaponry that God provides, so that you will be able to stand against the deceptive tactics of the Adversary. For we are not struggling against human beings, but against the rulers, authorities and cosmic powers governing this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realm. So take up every piece of war equipment God provides; so that when the evil day comes, you will be able to resist; and when the battle is won, you will still be standing. Therefore, stand! Have the belt of truth buckled around your waistput on righteousness for a breastplate, and wear on your feet the readiness that comes from the Good News of shalom. Always carry the shield of trust, with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the Evil One. And take the helmet of deliverance; along with the sword given by the Spirit, that is, the Word of God; as you pray at all times, with all kinds of prayers and requests, in the Spirit, vigilantly and persistently, for all God’s people.
– Ephesians 6:10-18

Creating a prayer space in your home can be a simple yet meaningful way to bring more spirituality and growth into your daily life. It’s a simple way to cultivate a sense of peace and reflection, a designated space for prayer and quiet time can be a powerful tool. It can help teach you to hear the voice of God and draw closer to him.

First, choose a location for your prayer space. It can be a corner of a room, a small table, or even just a cushion or mat on the floor. Make sure it is a location where you feel comfortable and can easily clear your mind.

Next, choose items to include in your prayer space. This can include religious texts, candles, and any other items that hold significance for you.

Finally, make it a habit to spend time in your prayer space each day, even if it is only for a few minutes. Use this time for prayer and reflection. With time, your prayer space will become a sacred and meaningful part of your daily routine. It’ll become the place where you grow spiritually and closer with God.
