Sustainable Choices for 2026

From the first seed placed in the ground to planning our next project, sustainability is at the center of everything we do. But what does sustainability truly mean to us? It means meeting the needs of today without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs. For our family, sustainability is not just a practice—it is a mindset rooted in faith.

We strive to teach our children to be mindful, disciplined, and to put Yeshua/Jesus first in all things. At times, we find ourselves trying to control outcomes through our own flesh, when what we truly need is to step back and allow Yeshua/Jesus to guide us. Learning to surrender control has played a huge role in building sustainability on our homestead.

Last year, this lesson became very real. We realized we needed to step away from several projects and goals and focus only on what truly mattered in that season. One of those decisions was moving our garden closer to the house. My wife and I spent time in prayer, asking ourselves what changes were necessary to grow in both self-control and sustainability. Through that process, we were reminded that true sustainability for our family comes through our Lord and Savior. He instilled in us wisdom, patience, and self-control, guiding us through each season.

Because of that guidance, we saw the fruit of our prayers this past year. Through Yeshua’s/Jesus’s timing, we cultivated a thriving garden and medicinal garden. With discipline and care, we harvested an abundance of fruits and vegetables in 2025 and were blessed to preserve and store much of it in our freezers for future use.

As we look ahead to the upcoming season, we will continue to seek His guidance in every decision we make. I want to leave you with a verse that has deeply encouraged us throughout this journey:

“He has made everything suited to its time; also, he has given human beings an awareness of eternity; but in such a way that they can’t fully comprehend, from beginning to end, the things God does.” — Ecclesiastes 3:11

My prayer is that this scripture guides you in your next homestead project and helps you build sustainability on your own land—through faith, patience, and trust in His timing.

“He has made everything suited to its time; also, he has given human beings an awareness of eternity; but in such a way that they can’t fully comprehend, from beginning to end, the things God does.” – Ecc. 3:11
