Family ties are some of the most cherished relationships in life. Among the many special bonds, the one between an aunt and uncle with their niece can be uniquely close, nurturing, and filled with love. My relationship with my aunt and uncle have always been a constant reminder of the beauty of family, and of how God’s love shines through in the simplest moments we share. It’s in the laughter over a cup of tea, the quiet advice in times of need, and the Bible studies we’ve done together. My aunt and uncle are very much like a extra parental figures to me.
Today, I want to share something very special — not just a recipe, but a reflection of the bond that grows between a loving aunt, uncle and their niece. This bond is rooted in God, built on trust, care, and faith, and it’s often passed down from one generation to the next.
The Aunt & Uncle-Niece Relationship: A Gift from God
From a young age, I always knew the relationship with my aunt and uncle was a bit different. There’s a quiet strength in them, a way of seeing the world that’s deeply rooted in faith and kindness. Our relationship has always stood out from any other. Every time I spend time with them — whether we’re chatting over a cup of tea or sharing a meal — I feel God’s love shining through. I can talk to them about anything, from the struggles of parenthood to dreams for the the future, and they always listens, offering advice grounded in faith and wisdom.
But it’s not just about the deep conversations. Some of the best times we’ve had together have been spent sitting, conversing about God, and chasing after young children filled with laughter. My aunt and uncle have a way of making everyone feel special, and they find joy in hosting get-togethers for others. The food they prepare is always amazing and fills the soul. One of their most requested recipes is their Sausage Stars. They typically makes them with pork sausage, but out of love and respect for our family’s biblical views, they substitute the pork with turkey or chicken. It’s a beautiful lesson in both cooking and in the art of family love.
Turkey Sausage Stars: A Recipe Passed Down with Love
This dish is one of my aunt and uncle’s signature recipes (It came from an old Hidden Valley Ranch Recipe, but has been changed over the years), and it’s become a favorite of mine too. It’s perfect for fellowship or party appetizers, when I want to make something easy and delicious for my family, but it’s also great for those quiet nights at home when I’m craving a little comfort. The best part? Knowing where the recipe comes from and cherishing it.
Here’s the recipe they shared with me — and now I’m passing it on to you:
Turkey Sausage Stars
Ingredients
- 1 lb Turkey sausage I like using the mild kind, but you can go spicy too.
- 1 pack Wonton Wrappers Usually found in the refrigerated section
- 1 cup Shredded Cheese Cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix
- 1/3 cup Ranch Dressing Sometimes, I measure with my heart here.
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: to 350°F (190°C).
- Cook the turkey sausage: in a skillet over medium heat until it’s browned and crumbly. Drain any extra fat.
- Prebake: Place the Wanton Wrappers, one in each cup of a 12-cup muffin tin and prebake for 4 minutes. Keeping a close eye on them.
- Create mixture: Add in the ranch and shredded cheese to your sausage. Mix ingredients together well.
- Assemble the stars: Spoon some of the cooked turkey sausage mixture onto each star, followed by little cheese and or black olives.
- Bake: Place the filled muffin tin in the oven and bake for another 2-4 minutes. Until golden and the cheese has melted. (Be careful! They can burn or darken easily.)
- Garnish: with a sprinkle of fresh herbs if you like, and then serve warm. You’ll see — they’ll disappear in no time!
A Relationship Rooted in God’s Love
As I look back on the times we’ve spent together, I realize that these moments are what truly matter. It’s not just about the recipe or the food, though they’re both important. It’s about the love and care we put into everything we do together, and the way God’s presence is felt in each moment. I’m so thankful for my aunt and uncle — for the wisdom they share with me, for the memories we’ve made, and for the love that keeps growing between us.
If you have an aunt, uncle or a special family member, I encourage you to spend some time together in the kitchen. Whether it’s this recipe or your own family favorite, the time you spend creating something with love is something that will stay with you forever.
